Abstract

Colostomy creation is a common and often unavoidable practice in both adult and paediatric surgery. Beyond the clinical indication, many patients encounter psychosocial stigma associated with carrying a faecal collection bag. In resource-limited settings, this challenge is exacerbated by the high costs and limited availability of standard colostomy bags. This commentary describes a novel colostomy appliance improvised by a patient to mitigate the financial burden imposed by commercially available devices.
